Who is the Customer?

Like Google, Bottlenose has a set of offerings for different kinds of users.

We provide a free discovery portal and monitoring dashboard for consumers and professionals. It’s targeted at the needs of individuals who want to keep up with what’s happening around topics they care about. Some use it for keeping up with news, events, hobbies, or people. Others use it for competitive intelligence, marketing, and even lightweight social listening, engagement and analytics.

We also are working on a more powerful “Pro” version that targets higher-end needs for professionals and enterprises that want more data, and more analytics and reporting. That will not be for consumers – just like Google Analytics is not a consumer offering.

Here is how we look at the world (these are a work in progress and we’re always adding to them, but we can’t include every company in this small slide, so apologies to anyone we left out…)

First a view of the markets we address…

Next, a view of some other comparable products and some of our competitors…

What’s the Business Model?

Bottlenose has a business model that is similar to Google. We plan to have some advertising in the free version, and we plan to offer some premium apps and services as well.

You might say it’s a “freemium” approach because our premium offerings will be optional subscriptions for individuals up to large enterprises.

What will the premium offerings include?

We have found that pro users particularly want more storage, more data, more analytics and insights, automation, integration, and alerting. That’s what you’ll get in the pro versions.

  • There will be a low-end subscription that anyone can afford that will provide more data storage and things like alerting and some other special tools.
  • We will also have some mobile apps with special features as well.
  • For higher level professionals users and enterprises, we’ll offer really massive firehose data (in association with Datasift and other partners), as well as more powerful real-time discovery and analytics for serious users (like marketers, brands, analysts, traders, political campaigns, journalists and media, sales, support, etc.).

In fact we already have 10′s of thousands of “pro” users including leading social media and branding agencies, major global brands, government departments, small, medium and large enterprises in many fields, already using Bottlenose.

They’re using it to get real-time insights about the conversation around their interests, markets, products, emerging topics, sentiment, influencers, and even real-time emerging trends, threats, and opportunities.

But we always want to provide a free version of Bottlenose for everyone too.

There are several ways to access Bottlenose:

  1. As an unregistered, guest user, just visit the portal.
  2. As a registered user, get a more personalized experience with the Dashboard.
  3. In the future, upgrade to Pro for higher levels of functionality and get additional data, storage, apps, services and more.

Like Google, we’ll have public facing services for consumers and advertisers, and then premium services for individuals up to enterprises.

We’re here to build a business. But to be honest, money isn’t why we are doing this. We need it to make this service even more awesome.

But we’re doing this because we just love it. It’s raw excitement. It’s the cutting edge. It just feels awesome to work on this. And we think it could change the world.

As innovators at heart, and social media addicts, there just is no better way to spend our time. So yes, we want to make this into a big company — a great company – but it’s pure passion that drives us.
