[...] EDIT 2012/05/2012 Looking back at this entry I can see I was trying to take an absolutionist view on what this thing we call life is. Incidentally, someone commented on one of my older videos on Youtube about information and simulated reality: “Please guys, be careful what you do with your attitude/perception. The world can be said to be a computer, because it can change in relation to us, we’re interwoven with it, but if we debase this thing that’s far more sophisticated than any of our dreams and mythologies to “data” and “illusion” you may create a VERY toxic world that we’re all gonna have to live in.” I think what often alludes us (including scientists) is how enveloped within language (Logos) we actually are. As McKenna alludes to in the video below, the use of metaphor is itself an act of magick. How we come to see “the World” says more about our own psyche than anything else. EDIT 2: Read this… Consciousness is not a computation [...]

Very thought provoking quandary. This day has been full of them for me after attending Being Human.
You make a curious and extreme rebuttal to consciousness being a computation. I notice that you use an abundance of absolute logic and if there's one thing I've found to be constant is non-absolutism (I know there's irony in that statement). I don't know whether you are right or wrong, but I also don't assume to absolutely know like you do, either. You postulate that it is completely impossible and improbable. Yet, how do you know a thing so certainly? Because you haven't been the one to arrive at the solution? That since you haven't observed it, it must not be possible? Strange point of view. In the end you may be right, but I'm not arrogant enough to postulate a conclusion. I mean arrogant in the nicest possible way, perhaps bold is a better word. I'd like to think that because we are only at the forefront of the research that we still have so much more to learn before drawing finite conclusions. It's been stated that we have only discovered 4% of the "known" universe. How can anyone draw any conclusions from anything. We can only theorize and try to prove our theories correct or incorrect. Absolute logic is the antithesis of science.
